Make dog biscuits for your four legged friends!

Guess what I made? DOG BISCUITS...but not for me!

Mami found a recipe from an old children's cookbook that belonged to my tía Denise and we decided to bake some for my grandma and grandpa's dog Jenna who was having her 15th birthday. Grandma said that in doggie years that's super old!

So mami and I made some and wanted to show you how to make them for your doggies too.

Here's what you will need:

Utensils
Cookie cutter in the shape of a dog bone
Pastry blender or two knives
Baking sheet
Pastry board or a clean kitchen counter
Mixing bowl
Rolling pin or an empty wine bottle (like mami used)

Ingredients
1 cup of flour
1 cup of wheat flour
1/2 cup of powdered milk
1/2 cup of wheat germ
1/2 tsp of salt
1 tsp of brown sugar
6 tbsp of margarine, lard or chilled bacon fat
1 egg
1/2 cup of water

Now for the fun part. Get your aprons and get mixing!

Step 1.
Preheat your oven to 325 F or 160 C
In the bowl mix the flours, milk and salt
Add pieces of margarine, lard or bacon fat with knives or pastry blender and mix
Because we used margarine, mami crumbled up some of Jenna's bacon treats to give it some extra flavour and added texture

Step 2.
Add sugar and the egg and gradually pour in water to make the dough stiff
Then knead the dough on a floured board or clean counter until it is smooth

Step 3.
Use the wine bottle or rolling pin to roll the dough to 1/2 inch thick
Then use the dog bone cutter to make the treats!

Step 4.
Add bones to baking tray and put into the oven!
Bake for 30 minutes

Step 5.
Take out
Let the treats cool before giving them to your dog and ENJOY!

The recipes make two entire baking sheets so we are sending some to my tío Tomás's dog Duke in a box.

If you are going to do this, don't forget to use the same cookie cutter and make special dog tag with your pets name using colored paper.

Jenna loves her treats and we know your doggies will like them too!

P.S. If you like this, we would love you to please share it on Facebook, Twitter or Google +. Thank you!
