Fit and fat?

Mami wants to know, can you be fit (in good shape) and be fat?

She's been thinking a lot about this lately. As some of you know, she has been training for the London marathon and this Sunday is the big day.

Some people are surprised to know she is training because they expect her to be lean and thin. Not gordita, or curvy like she is now. One person even said "I expected you to have lost loads of weight".

Ohhhhhhhh! Not the thing to say to mami. She did handle it well though and laughed it off saying "I'm sure I can out run you any day".

But I know she was very upset. I know that she had high hopes of finally losing a few pounds and getting back in shape when she agreed to be sponsored by Nestle to run the marathon.

She and papi have been training, but I'm sad to report, mami hasn't lost any weight and had to buy jeans a bigger size up. I should know, I was with her and it wasn't a pleasant moment.

So why does this happen? I mean she feels healthy overall. She can run for a long time - just last week she did 4 hours! We walk everywhere and she is constantly on the move.

Do you think it's how you are built? Because I've got the biggest tummy I know but I can out run all of my really skinny friends on the playground.

Papi suggested she needed to do "high intensity" work outs because the body gets smart and running doesn't do it anymore.

"Unbelievable!" She yelled out. "I just can't win!"

So now mami is thinking about what to do next. After the marathon she needs to venture into a few fitness regime that works in order to drop those pounds.

But the question still is, can you be fat and fit?

Tell us what you think! In the meantime I will make sure mami stays active.

  1. Personally I think you should drench these people in some of your lovely pure life water!

Surely the most important part of your training is the tip top condition of your body and your health! What you are doing is really hard work, and you have probably built up plenty of muscle too.

    Good luck for Sunday!

  2. ahhh, thanks! I was surprised, but I also just feel this pressure to look a certain way, especially if you are training for something as big as a marathon. Thanks for stopping by! x

  3. Having met you I can safely say you're not fat! Nowhere near it in fact!

Some people are born "thinner" than others, but I think you're fitter than any size 6 supermodel!!
    Good luck for Sunday lovely!

  4. Thanks Katie - I know the word is strong but I was using it more for emphasis. I was recently told I was "borderline obese" by the GP. I was shocked! Thanks for the best wishes, I'm nervous!! xx

  5. Maria, I didn't loose any weight either...was planning to, but on the other hand have to say I was eating much more than before my training. The trick for me is going to be eating less after the marathon...and going back to different exercises as weel, my spinning and swimming ;)))

I know I could loose some weight by not eating stuff I love, but cannot seem to be able to do it these days...

Very excited about seeing you on Sunday ;)

  7. When I was at my absolute fittest I put on quite a bit of weight - purely because muscle is bulker and heavier than fat.

If you look at professional sportspeople they often look bulky because they have such big, defined muscles.

So, Little M, tell your Mami she's looking fit, and fantabulous!!!!

  8. Firstly, you're not fat! Muscles are bulky and heavy too. I think you can be fit and not be a skinny size 6. The perfect example is rugby players. They are really fit but they are not all skinny (not that you look like a rugbyplayer though lol!). Good luck on Sunday

Say hello to my sister, Little L!

It's been a very long time. My days as a blogger are over (at least I think they are?) — I'm now mami's sort of photographer (I&...
